Nobody thinks of going for takeout at a drive-thru window as a life-changing or a life-threatening experience. However, accidents can happen anywhere. And when they do, it’s important to have the right people around you. People like Zack “Cowboy” Kokenzie. This man works at a Chick-Fil-A drive-thru window in Columbus. Other than being employed by the chicken sandwich chain, he is CPR certified, and just the man you need around in case of emergency. When Kokenzie was busy at work, he heard a panicked cry from one of the cars in the service line and sprinted in its direction with no second thought. The cry came from a father trying to free his boy from the back seat of his car with the help of another customer. The poor boy had the seatbelt wrapped around his neck, blocking his airway, and Kokenzie quickly cut the belt with a pair of scissors handed to him by a coworker.
It all happened in a matter of seconds and the child was able to breathe again with no further damage or injuries. Kokenzie and the coworker who handed him the scissors saved the day, but apparently, the whole staff at the restaurant is properly trained for such a situation. That is according to the restaurant’s owner, Alex Vann. However, it was Kokenzie’s calm demeanor under pressure that made him stand out. This demeanor is what gave him the nickname “Cowboy” as he had once managed to stay calm after nearly falling off a horse he was riding.

Not the Only Hero
Kokenzie is not the first, nor the only Chick-Fil-A worker to have rescued a kid from choking. Logan Simmons, a Chick-Fil-A manager, was only 19 when he literally jumped out of the drive-thru window to save a six-year-old boy from choking. The whole thing was caught on a security camera. The footage even shows him using a pocket knife to perform this heroic act.
